Bentley by Former
Bentley – Danish Design with German Precision!
Bentley pipes represent a perfect blend of Danish pipe artistry and modern craftsmanship. The line was created by renowned Danish pipe maker Hans “Former” Nielsen (born 1941), who in the 1980s was invited to design a new range of pipes for the German-speaking market.
Production initially took place in Germany and Switzerland, where Bentley soon gained recognition for its elegant shapes, precise engineering, and reliable smoking qualities. In the late 1990s, Hans and his wife Daniela acquired the Bentley machinery and moved production to Denmark, continuing to make around 1,400 pipes per year — all under Former’s personal supervision.
Bentley pipes were especially popular in Germany and Switzerland, appreciated by both seasoned smokers and collectors. Most pipes were stamped “Bentley – Former’s Design”, a hallmark of quality and classic Danish style.
Production ceased around 2007–2008, when Hans Nielsen decided to focus entirely on his handmade “Former” pipes. Today, Bentley pipes stand as an important chapter in the story of modern Danish pipe making — a testament to Former’s ability to unite function, form, and finesse.
